Welcome to the June 2020 edition of RDRA e-news, with 10 of the latest news items from our website.

It is planned that the next newsletter will be sent out at the end of July after the AGM. If, due to Covid-19, we have to postpone the date, we will send out an e-mail advising of a revised date.

We will also have to send a letter to all members with the same information.

RDRA supports the residents of the Mill stream in their bid to ensure that if the Bury Weir is removed, as part of the Aquadrome project the flow of water in the Mill stream is maintained. We have introduced the Mill stream group to partners such as Friends of Stockers Lake and the Colne Valley Regional Trust. Members of RDRA have spoken at committee meetings and public meetings and are hopeful TRDC and the Environment agency will honour their commitment that the water levels in the Mill Stream will not diminish after the weirs removal.

The Mill stream runs from close to the Halfway House on the Uxbridge road down past Drayton Ford (Springwell Lane) and re joins the Colne at the Maple Cross treatment works. It is up to 800 years old. The Mill race which still exists on the Uxbridge road behind the Tanning centre and car showroom was a paper Mill and before that a corn Mill and is also of the same age as the Mill stream.

RDRDA seeks to preserve the Mill stream and the Mill race and will work with all agencies to reach this goal.

Over the last three months, Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) across Hertfordshire have been busy tackling the issues you told us matter most — including anti-social behaviour and vehicle use, road safety and drug-related crime.
|
Thanks to your feedback, we’ve stepped up patrols, carried out targeted operations and made arrests.
|
We’re now getting ready to set our next round of local policing priorities at the start of September — and we want to hear from you again.
|
No one knows an area better than the people who live and work in it and your insight plays a big part in our decision making, helping to shape the priorities, alongside an analysis of local data.

Three Rivers District Council is developing its Green Space Strategy for 2027–2032 and wants to hear how you use local green spaces, what you value most, and where improvements are needed. Whether it’s tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing retail crime, improving safety for women and girls, or making sure our parks and public spaces feel welcoming, I want to hear what matters most to you.
|
This summer, I'm launching the next phase of my Safer Town Centres campaign, building on work that has already helped reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in hotspot locations across Hertfordshire through extra patrols and targeted activity.
|
We're stepping up action this summer
|
Over the coming months, Hertfordshire Constabulary and local partners will be carrying out:
|
✅ Extra police patrols in town centres and hotspot areas
✅ Targeted action against anti-social behaviour and violence
✅ Work to tackle retail crime and support local businesses
✅ Activity focused on improving safety for women and girls
✅ Partnership work with councils, businesses and community groups to make public spaces feel safer and more welcoming

With more people expected to be out and about over the summer, we're focusing resources where they can make the biggest difference.
|
The best way to improve local areas is by listening to the people who use them every day.
|

Funding available for local projects

I'm also opening a new grant scheme to support projects that improve safety and help communities thrive. Councils, charities, community groups, business organisations and local partners are encouraged to apply.
|
Funding could support innovative initiatives that:
|
- Improve community safety
- Reduce anti-social behaviour
- Help people feel more confident using public spaces
- Support safer high streets and town centres
The more people who take part, the better the picture we can build of what matters in communities across Hertfordshire.
